Dear Member of the IAN Community,

As 2009 draws to a close, the Interactive Autism Network presents articles on a host of topics exploring research and quality-of-life issues for individuals with autism spectrum disorder (ASD).

As you read, keep in mind that referring new families and adults with ASD to IAN Research will keep the momentum going, as we all strive to understand ASD and what individuals on the autism spectrum can contribute to the community. Invite a friend before year end!

Read and enjoy!

Detecting and Understanding ASDs in Girls

Shana Nichols, author of Girls Growing Up on the Autism Spectrum: What Parents and Professionals Should Know About the Pre-Teen and Teenage Years, has written an article about girls with ASD especially for IAN Community.

How many girls are being diagnosed with ASDs? Are some of them being misdiagnosed or missed altogether? What does it mean for girls that they are so rarely included in autism research?

IAN Research Report: Girls!

More than 1,000 girls with ASD are participating in IAN Research, the nation's largest online autism research project. What are we learning about them? In what ways are they similar to boys with ASD, and in what ways are they different?

Find out in our latest research report: Girls Participating in IAN.

Learning to Drive with ASD

Learning to drive is a rite of passage for many teens and young adults. What factors do parents need to consider as they decide whether it's time for their adolescent or young adult with ASD to get behind the wheel?

Read Rules of the Road to learn more.

Adults with ASD: National Town Hall

A member of the IAN team recently attended the Advancing Futures for Adults with Autism (AFAA) National Town Hall. This meeting, which brought together people concerned with the situation of adults on the autism spectrum from all across the United States, was a crucial first step in setting a national agenda for improving that situation.

Find out more in IAN's Report on the AFAA Town Hall.

Invite a Friend Before Year End!

To continue to accelerate autism research, IAN Research needs new families and adults to sign up on a regular basis. Many out there have not yet heard of us.

Can you help? Please invite a friend before year end. Inform all of those who may be eligible to join IAN Research -- adults with ASD, their guardians, and families of children with ASD living in the U.S. We've written an e-mail you can send to your friends that explains the IAN Project. We're also happy to speak with them...or you! Call us at 866-348-3440.
