Autism Prevalence Increases in New Survey

Date Published:
November 14, 2015

A new survey by two U.S. health agencies shows that 1 in 45 children have autism, up from 1 in 80 a few years ago. However, experts, including Dr. Paul H. Lipkin, director of the Interactive Autism Network, say the increase may be due to changes in how the survey was conducted. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the National Center for Health Statistics, changed the format of the health questionnaire given to families, which may have affected the autism results.

Dr. Lipkin was quoted about this change in an article in Forbes.
