Date Published:

photo of siblingsA study using information provided by 2,500 families from the Interactive Autism Network (IAN) found that when there is more than one sibling diagnosed with autism in a family (a multiple-incidence family), the unaffected siblings have more autistic-like symptoms than those in single-incidence families. The study, published in the journal Molecular Autism, explores additional traits associated with the inheritance of autism spectrum disorder, including the gender of the affected siblings and speech and language difficulties.
